Learning from the past
The history of Hydro Electric power
The scheme should be largely complete by Winter 2008. From that time on, it will generate clean, green electricity for the best part of the next century, from its quiet and inconspicuous location in the mountainside, where it will be almost invisible.
Glendoe represents a grand continuation of SSE hydro heritage, which
began with the construction of stations in Northern Scotland in the
1930s. As the architects and guardians of the majority of the UK’s
renewable energy, SSE regard this flagship project as embodying an
acknowledgement of the past, but more importantly, it also symbolizes
our vision of an exciting, sustainable future for energy production.
