Local Projects

SSE wants to ensure that Glendoe continues to support the surrounding
area in the future. To do this, the company is working with local community councils to set up a Community Benefit Fund which will provide millions of pounds to finance local projects and initiatives over the next 25 years. SSE plans to appoint the Scottish Community Foundation (SCF) to assist local representatives in administering the fund. Details of the projects that the fund will aid will be posted on this site, in the News section, as they occur.

However, the size of the scheme has already seen a number of small-scale projects happen. For example, when it was decided that the gigantic tunnel boring machine needed a name, the children of nearby Kilchuimen Primary School were invited to come up with ideas. Eventually they chose ‘Eliza Jane’, explaining: “because it’s so long it should be called Lizzy Longlegs, but it’s very important and deserved a fancier name than just Lizzy.”

In addition, the public’s desire for information on the scheme has seen SSE invest in an interactive ‘touchscreen’ resource, which will be located in the Great Glen Trading Centre from midwinter 2006/07, providing colourful, concise information on the scheme and its issues.
